Dutch Couple compleat on Stob Ghabar
First lady Dutch Munroist
First lady Dutch Munroist

Anne
van der Wal and her husband Jan Vijfhuizen from Beekbergen in the
Netherlands jointly compleated their Munros on Stob Ghabar on May 23rd.
In doing so we believe Anne becomes the first Dutch lady to
compleat the Munros. Only five Dutch men are registered as compleating
so Jan joins a select group.
Anne and Jan have climbed all their Munros together sometimes accompanied by their friend John. They started in 1993 and faced a heatwave in Torridon in 1994. They camped in winter on the Cairngorm plateau and almost lost each other in mist and rain between Beinn Dearg and Cona' Mheall!
For the ascent of Stob Ghabar they were joined by 16 friends, mostly from Holland. A number in the group were climbing their first hill but the experienced members in the party ensured all arrived safely at the summit where they were greeted by three members of the Munro Society. A kilted Stewart Logan and Peter Willimott shared drams with the Dutch Group and former President Iain Robertson presented Anne and Jan with a congratulatory card from TMS president Glen Breaden. They were also given a TMS DVD about our founder President Irvine Butterfield.
The TMS members and Heather Willimott joined the Dutch group for the descent to Victoria Bridge via Sron a' Ghearrain and the track by the Ailt Ghabhair.
Congratulations to Anne and Jan and thanks from Iain, Stewart, Peter and Heather for allowing us to share your day.
